Ballast Lead

Ballast Lead is used to provide weight distribution and stability. It is considerably denser than steel and can withstand corrosion related to environmental conditions, making it ideal for nautical uses. Although, lead ballast comes in a variety of shapes, sizes, and weights, the standard size offered is typically 3″ x 4″ x 12″ and approximate 59-60 pounds.  Lighter options such as Notchbars, which are approximately 8lbs per bar and Lead Spheres, which are about 25 lbs. each and are similar to calking lead.  Both of these options can be broken apart into smaller pieces very easily, as lead is a soft metal that is easily to break apart.  The smaller options are ideal for smaller boats and wooden boats, where the it is more important to distribute the weight.
